Wikaila

Have you heard about Wikaila lamps? It’s the newest yakayaga product.
The main goal of this project was to search found objects that can be transformed into an elegant lamp. The name Wikaila means Grand Canyon in Yavapai dialect and reflects perfectly the structure of this lamp.

One more cupcake lampshade packed and delivered. Big thanks to you folks! If I have done the math right 5 of those is lightning Madrid apartments, 3 are in Warsaw, 4 are hanging in Cracow, 3 in Chorzów, 2 in Katowice, 1 is in Wrocław, 1 in Ontario and 1 in Brooklyn NY. That makes the grand total of big fat 20!!
During the last 4 years a few hundred pieces of jewellery, headbands, fascinators, bags and clothing have been sold around Europe and last week the very first eco-leather yakayaga fascinator was sent to Australia.
Thank you all my dear friends, promoters, buyers and supporters. It is all because of you yakayaga one step at the time is going global

Just Organize Yourself

I haven’t posted anything for the last 7 months. I’m really terribly sorry for that. It’s time for a little summary of what has happened between then and now.

Last September, after spending year and a half in Madrid, I decided to move back to Poland. It was both due to personal and professional reasons. First month was all about meeting and greeting all my “long time not seen” friends, partying hard till the break of dawn and Poland tripping. I had all these thoughts running through my head like a hurricane - What should I do next? Should I stay? Should I go somewhere else again? In the meantime a job offer popped up.  In a form of a kids fashion designer position. (You can all stop laughing now). I decided to go for it and landed in Warsaw, 300 km due NE from Silesia. I had to organise my life from scratch yet again. Surprisingly for the first time in a year or so I felt truly alive. You know I am all about changes and challenges J There was I, a freelancer till I die, trying to adjust to working from 9 to 5. It took quite a while cause after coming back home hammered after a long day, designing something under your own tag is seriously sometimes the last thing on your mind. However I am a supergirl and in December all the hostesses at the Gala Przedsiębiorcy Roku 2012 wore my dresses. I also participated in the 6th edition of Przetwory Fair, met few new clients, lots of new friends,  learnt some new things, sold a dozen of cupcake lampshades and started the year with the strong feeling of being invincible… I rearranged my working space to bring inspiration and push me to be better, faster and stronger.

Feeling wind under my wings, I’ve decided to prepare the first DIY this year. It would be “organizing myself” –and I mean it – I will start with extremely easy “How to personalize your  1.5€ worth organizer”. Yes, I realise it’s May and I am already 5 months behind schedule …..what can I say - it’s never too late for a little pimping.

He pasado los últimos viajando alrededor de mi amada Silesia. La tierra donde los edificios del siglo XIX se mezclan con el industrialismo. La tierra de los trabajadores del acero, fábricas y minas de carbón. El lugar que amo por todos aquellos que crecieron aquí. 
I've spend last few days traveling a bit around my lovely Silesia. The land where the 19th century buildings blend with industrialism and socialist realism architecture. The land of steelworks, factories and coal mines. The place loved by all those who grown up here.

Como algunos de vosotros sabeis, he aterrizado en Polonia ayer, y durante algún tiempo tengo planes de quedarme aquí hasta noticias más tempranas. No os alarmeis, el blog y la tienda de "etsy" seguirá actualizandose sin cambios, con muchas, muchas novedades para este Otoño/Invierno, que espero os gusten.
Al final del mes de Septiembre, la nueva colección aparecerá en algunas tiendas de Madrid, como estaba planeado, gracias a mi representante de ventas Rubén y mi especialista de marketing Marta. 
Yakayaga tendrá algun periodo de transición, colaboraciones y cambios de imagen.¡ESTAR ANTENTO!
As some of you already know, I landed in Poland yesterday and for the time being I do plan to stay here until the further notice. Don’t be alarmed – the blog and etsy shop will keep on rolling without any significant changes.
In the end of September the new collection will appear in the local shops in Madrid as planned, thanks to my sales representative Ruben and marketing specialist Marta. Right now yakayaga awaits some small transitions, co-operations and image changes. STAY TUNED!

DIY garbage necklace

Vale...una técnica mas de collares textiles DIY. Para hacerlo no necesitas ningún talento especial o materiales caros de ningún tipo. Solo necesitas algún tipo de textil viejo para reciclar, algunos botones, cuentas, y cualquier cosa que puedas encontrar en el armario. Ah si!! algo muy importante que olvidé, aguja e hilo :-)Lo que tienes que hacer es unir todos los elementos como quieras...el arte caótico es muy apreciado.
One more DIY fabric necklace. You don’t need any special talents or expensive materials of any sort to make it. Necessary to complete this project are: some pieces of textile to recycle, some buttons, beads and whatever else u will found in your drawer…oh yeah I've almost forgot – needle and thread of your choice. What You need to do is to put together all the elements however U want - creative chaos will be appreciated.

DIY fabric necklace

Estoy seguro de que habeis visto este tipo de collar/bufanda textil en más de una ocasión. Fue muy popular hará cosa de hace 3 años, ahora puedes comprarlo casí en cada tienda. Bueno, puedes comprarles o hacerte el tuyo propio!!!Para hacerlo solo necesitarás: una camiseta viaje (lo mas grande y dado de sí que puedas encontrar en tu armario....si no tienes ninguna, robasela a tu hermano o a tu novio :-), tijeras afiladas y 20 minutos
Paso 1. Corta la camiseta en tiras.
Paso 2. Usa una rayada para el toque final
Paso 3. Estriralo todo.
Paso 4. Llevala puesta como una bufanda o un collar para darle un toque de elegancia a tu conjunto

I'm sure U saw this kind of fabric necklace/scarf more than once.  It became really popular some 3 years back, now U can buy it almost in each shop. Well , U can buy it or made one - personalized one. To do so U will need an old t-shirt(the biggest one U can find in your closet - if U do not have one steal it from your brother, boyfriend or friend), pair of sharp scissors and some 20 minutes of your time.
step 1.cut the tshirt in to stripes
step 2. use one stripe for finishing touch
step 3. stretch everything
step 4. Wear it as a scarf or necklace to snazz up your outfit.

He pensado ultimamente sobre proyectos de decoración de paredes y sus materiales, que irían bien con el diseño interior de las habitaciones.

Entre tanto pensando como construir una pared de pajitas de plastico (preferiblemente rosas). He considerado materiales mas tradicionales que son faciles de limpiar y me dan más oportunidades para jugar con los colores, formas y basicamente con el espacio.....si lo sé, no mucha gente usa azulejos para el pared de las habitaciones…pero que demonios porque no?!

I was thinking lately about wall decor projects and materials  that would go well with a living-room interior design. In between thinking how to construct wall out of plastic straws(preferably pink ones), I was considering more traditional materials that are washable and give some opportunity to play with colors, shapes and basically with a space. Yeah I know - not really many people use ceramic tiles in the living room but well - why the hell not!

Probablemente cuando tenía alrededor de 5 años y mi bisabuela me enseño como hacer joyas usando papel de revistas viejas. Más tarde fui haciendome mis camisetas "customizadas", mis vaqueros y un día decidí secuestrar la maquina de coser de mi madre y conduje 100km de distancia de su ciudad.

Comencé a vender mis diseños hará unos 4 años, la mayoria a mis amigos y ahora pues estoy en ese punto.....de intentar pensar más a lo grande.

Todos los productos YakaYaga estaán hechos usando los mejores materiales. Buscó inspiración por todos los sitios, libros, galerías, películas y demás...y también me fijo en el estilo de la gente por las calles. Además paso bastante tiempo eligiendo la mejor tecnología posible. Mis sombreros y tocados son 100% hechos y cosidos a mano. Nunca compró formas prefabricadas. Y lo mismo aplica para el resto de los productos. Adoro usar todo tipo de objetos, de forma que el producto que compras está hecho de telas que provienen de estilo "vintage". Haciendo todo a mano para mí significa que el diseño que compras es irrepetible y unico. No habrá nadie más que lo vista...

I was probably 5 and my great-grandmother taught me how to, using old magazine pages,   make paper jewelry. Later there were customized t-shirts, customized jeans and the day that I kind of kidnapped my mothers sewing machine  and I droved  it out 100km away from her town. I've started to sell my designs 4 years ago - mostly to my friends and now here we are- I'm trying new more wide approach

 All yakayaga products are made from the best quality materials. I do search for inspiration everywhere, well starting with books,  galleries, movies and so on but i do observe people on the street as well trying to found out what do they like and what do they  need....staring is probably more  adequate word to describe it. I do spend a lot time choosing the best possible technology. My hats and fascinators are 100% handmade and sewn. I do not buy premade forms and cover them. The same applies to other of my products as well. Often the product u buy is made from recycled vintage textiles, what makes it more unique. Making all by hand means as well that the design u buy is unrepeatable - there will be no-one else having it.

DIY time customization

¿Quieres "customizar" tu reloj?. Hay una manera simple de hacerlo. Necesitas un reloj que no te importe abrirlo, un magazine antiguo, pegamento y unas herramientas.

Paso 1: Abre con cuidado el reloj, usando un destornillador y separa las piezas. Presta cuidado a las manecillas.

Paso 2: Elige una foto de la revista y cortala del mismo tamaño y forma que la del interior del reloj.

Paso 3: Con cuidado, coloca las manecillas en orden

Paso 4: Coloca el resto de las piezas en su lugar,....

ya tenemos nuestro reloj "customizado" y "fashion", sin gastar ni un euro. Ahora sal a la calle con el y se la envidia de tus amigos :-)

You want to customize your watch – I know the simple way to do so.  You will need one watch you can take a part, old magazine, glue and toolbox.

step 1- open very carefully the watch and split it to the pieces, be specially careful with the watch hands

step 2- choose the photo from the magazine and cut it the same shape that watch face is

step 3- carefully  place watch hands back in the proper order

step 4- place the rest of the pieces back in the place…

your watch have been customize you can go out and show it to all your friends
